Bird-observation in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan expels different landscape-types from the coasts of the Caspian sea, flat seas of the valleys, semi-deserts, different wet-areas, different forest-types, mountain and high mountain region-landscapes.
This landscape-variety causes also a rich bird-world. With international support, the management of the set up protectorates is built to protect about rarely become bird-species. This trip is carried out in cooperation with the Azerbajan Ornithological Society (AOS) and the administrations of the protectorates.
ITINERARY
Day: Arrival
Day: Arrival
in Baku, reception of the airport, trip to the national-park Shirvan, overnight
stay in the national-park in the observation-station (sleeping bag necessary).
Day: Observations in the national-park Shirvan (gazelle, white-wing-tern, almost all heron-species). Overnight stay in the national-park in the observation-station (sleeping bag necessary).
Day: See
Petroglyphen in the Gobustan-Sanctuary with their exceptional mud-volcanos,
archaeological spots of discovery. Overnight stay in the national-park Shirvan
in the observation-station (sleeping bag necessary).
Day: Shirvan coast-tour. Overnight stay in the national-park in the observation-station (sleeping bag necessary).
Day: Drive to the Mahmud Chala lake. Boat-trip on the lake. It is a typical lake of the semi-desert different bird-species with dense reed. Observation of brooding terns on the lake, silver-herons (Egretta alba), silk-herons (Egretta garzetta), purple-herons (Ardea purpurea), cow-herons (Bubulcuc ibis), gray-herons (Ardea cinerea), night-herons (Nycticorax nycticorax), piston-ducks (Netta rufina), marble-ducks (Marmaronetta angustirostris), bee-gluttons (Merops apiaster). Overnight stay in private houses.
Day:
Drive into the Hirkan national-park. It is a foliage-forest-area with
rare tree-types (for example iron-tree, chestnut-oak u.a.m.), that
survived as relics of the subtropics only here. Observation of
forest-birds. Overnight stay in private houses.
Day: Hike in the Hirkan national-park. Observation of forest-birds ( Hyrkanische titmouse Parus hyrcanus). Overnight stay in private houses.
Day: Drive into the Zuvand sanctuary. Observations in dry mountain-steppe (for example gripping-birds, sand-flight-chicken, Pterocles orientalis, reptiles and insects -). Overnight stay in private houses.
Day: Drive to the Sarysu lake. Observation of night-herons, piston-ducks, bee-gluttons marble-ducks. Overnight stay in private houses.
Day: Observations
of the Sarysu lake, boat-trip on the lake. Forest-hike in the last forest
of the eastern Kura-Niederung. Overnight stay in private houses.
Day:
Drive into the Goychai Bozdag mountains. Observations in the hilly Turianchai
sanctary, 200-500 m.ü.NN. Hike in the rare foresttyp with wild peanut, oaks
and junipers. Observation of vultures (monk-vultures - Aegypius monachus
- goose-vultures, Gyps fulvus, filth-vultures - Neophron percnopterus -
emperor-eagles, Aquila heliaca, bee-gluttons - Merops apiaster and blue-cheek-pint
- Merops superciliosus, cap-bunting - Emberiza melanocephala). Overnight
stay in the private house.
Day: Observation in Goychai: Emperor-eagles, gripping-birds, vultures. Observations take place in 50 to 100 m of the nest. Overnight stay in private houses.
Day: Drive after Baku. Overnight stay in Appartments in Baku.
